Nestled in the heart of sunny central Oregon, Tumalo rests along Oregon's spectacular Deschutes River four miles north of Bend. Its location makes it an ideal base camp for any outdoor activity you could dream of clear blue-ribbon trout streams, pristine alpine lakes, and miles of scenic hiking and mountain bike trails.

The Shop Maintenance Host provides service for Tumalo State Park by assisting Rangers in organization of the shop, mowing, maintenance of equipment and the park. Review the volunteer assignment description for this position here.

Time Commitment: Volunteers should anticipate 20-30 hours per week, 4-5 hours per person per day, hours to be completed between the hours of 7:00 am-5:00 pm.

Pilot Butte is an old cinder cone located just east of Bend. Hike up and around on one of three trails. The trails wind through stands of juniper and sage. All of the trails lead to the summit. Once at the top, get ready for a grand panoramic view of the high desert. To the west at sunset, the glow of snowcapped Cascade mountains put on a spectacular show. Three Sisters, Mt. Jefferson, Black Butte and Mt. Hood are some of the highlights. There is year-round access from the east side parking lot to all trails and the summit.

The Day-Use Host provides service for Pilot Butte by providing outstanding public contact, shows a caring presence, answers questions, helps to deter vandalism and continually improves park aesthetics. Time Commitment: Volunteers should anticipate approximately 4 hours a day, 5 days/week, per host. Wednesday-Thursday off.

Bend has so much to offer, with 300+ days of sunshine, tons of outdoor recreation opportunities, great shops, craft breweries, and amazing people. If you're interested in this position, your home would be a lovely RV site with full hookups at Bend Oregon's finest family park.

This position  is the Campground Relief Host.  Duties include cleaning yurts, tidying sites and litter picking, stocking firewood, helping with snow removal, and covering the greeting hosts on their days off.  This is a great way to give back to Oregon State Parks, assist our rangers, and enjoy the central Oregon sunshine.  Review the volunteer assignment description for this position here.

Tumalo is a busy park, and a large part of the job can include answering visitor's questions about registration, the park, and Central Oregon.  Tumalo has two loops open during the winter months and 7 basic yurts (no bathrooms or kitchens).  You'll be working with 1 other set of hosts and up to 3 rangers in the campground.
