Thompson's Mills is a unique survivor of times past, chronicling 160 years of Oregon rural life and honoring the owners who continually adapted the mill to the changing world around it. It is the oldest standing water-powered grain mill in Oregon, and its turbines can be seen in action on guided tours. A water right that predates statehood produces the water flow that still runs the milling machines for demonstrations today


The Interpretive provides service for Thompson’s Mills State Heritage Site by supporting park employees with the daily operations, providing information about park-specific natural and cultural history and assists with general park maintenance. This park near Albany is a quiet oasis for boating, paddling and hiking. It's made up of a north and south parcel, with parking lots at each. The Luckiamute River meanders through the 615-acre north tract, flowing into the Willamette River from the west and just a stone's throw from the Santiam River confluence from the east. Travelers paddling the Willamette Water Trail can camp at the boater-access-only site. Hikers can park at the North Trailhead and take the 3-mile North Unit Loop trail along a meadow and through a riparian hardwood forest of Oregon ash and bigleaf maple. Habitat is a key reason why Luckiamute exists. Low-impact activity like paddling and hiking complement the effort to restore natural flood plains.

The Maintenance Host provides service for Luckiamute State Natural Area by supporting the landscaping and cleaning of the park, greets park visitors, and open/closes the park gate. Maud Williamson occupies a flat edge of cultivated Willamette Valley farm land on the west side of the Salem-Dayton highway. It's covered by a fine stand of second-growth Douglas fir. The park also includes a historic farm house once occupied by the person who donated the property as a park. The park provides a covered picnic shelter which can be reserved for group picnics. Large Douglas fir trees tower overhead providing excellent wildflower viewing in the early spring. Trilliums are abundant here.


The Day Use Host provides service for Maud Williamson State Recreation Site by supporting the landscaping and cleaning of the park. Sarah Helmick is located 6 miles south of Monmouth off Highway 99W. The small, shady park is situated along the Luckiamute River. Two picnic areas for groups up to 150 people each can be reserved. Electricity, water, and picnic tables are provided at each site. Big leaf maples provide plenty of shade. You wouldn't guess just by looking, but this a deeply meaningful place. Sarah Helmick was the first state park established in Oregon.
