Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Columbia River Gorge from the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail. The trail comprises three disconnected paved paths along stretches of historic Highway 30 — which predated I-84 as the only road connecting Portland and The Dalles. Together the segments provide a combined 12-plus miles of thrilling scenery and spectacular geologic formations.

The Visitor Center host provides service for the Sen. Mark O. Hatfield HCRH Trailhead by supporting the visitor center during posted hours, selling park passes, souvenirs, and water. Handling cash and credit card transactions and keeping accurate, daily computerized records. The stars seem to shine brighter at this campground on the east end of the Columbia River Gorge, 11 miles west of The Dalles. Campsites look over the river and the park’s namesake, Memaloose Island, a place sacred to the indigenous people of the Columbia River Gorge. They would lay the bones of their dead on open pyres on the island. Also buried there is an early settler and town promoter of The Dalles, Senator Victor Trevitt. A granite monument visible from Memaloose campground marks his grave.   Today, the park is a gateway to exploring The Dalles and the east end of the Gorge. Visitors will enjoy spring wildflowers and the cooling shade of the maple, willow and cottonwood trees. On summer nights, the park’s grassy meadows are the perfect spot to observe the nightly celestial performance.

The campground host provides service for Memaloose State Park by supporting campground operations, maintaining grounds, facilities, and campsites, providing excellent customer service to visitors, and observing park activity and reporting concerns to park staff. Viento is Spanish for wind — an apt name for a park in the blustery Columbia River Gorge. But this is just a happy coincidence. Viento (pronounced vee-EN-toe) actually comes from the first letters of three railroad tycoons— Villard, Endicott, and Tollman—who built the first railroad in the area. Where a railroad station once stood is now the home of one of the best Gorge campgrounds, conveniently located just 8 miles west of Hood River. Viento’s day-use area has easy access to the Columbia River and some thrilling windsurfing. There's a peaceful picnic next to a babbling creek. A day-use parking permit is required for non-campers.

Nestled in the awe-inspiring Columbia River Gorge, Ainsworth is equal parts waterfall wonderland, hiker's playground and camper's delight. Situated at the eastern end of the Historic Columbia River Highway, the park also marks the eastern end of the popular "Waterfall Corridor" that begins at  Crown Point and includes the majestic Multnomah Falls.  Latourell, Bridal Veil, Wahkeena, and Horsetail Falls are also along this route.

This shaded park is located on the Sandy River southeast of the Stark Street Bridge on the Historic Columbia River Highway (Hwy 30). A popular destination for fishing, boating and swimming, the park features a beach area that fills quickly in the summer months, as well as picnic tables and grills throughout. A picnic shelter can be reserved for events with up to 50 people. The shelter is next to a volleyball court and horseshoe pits. An 18-hole disc golf course is popular year-round, and is one of the most technical and challenging courses in the Northwest.

Stretching alongside the Columbia River and just 22 miles east of Portland, Rooster Rock is a perfect place to spend a day away from the city. When east winds rush down the Columbia Gorge at 25 to 40 mph, windsurfers descend to ride the whitecaps. Bring your windsurfing gear, or enjoy watching from the beach. A tranquil lagoon at the west end of the park is a peaceful spot to paddle or fish for bass, steelhead and walleye beneath the park’s namesake, Rooster Rock.
