Stretching alongside the Columbia River and just 22 miles east of Portland, Rooster Rock is a perfect place to spend a day away from the city. When east winds rush down the Columbia Gorge at 25 to 40 mph, windsurfers descend to ride the whitecaps. Bring your windsurfing gear, or enjoy watching from the beach. A tranquil lagoon at the west end of the park is a peaceful spot to paddle or fish for bass, steelhead and walleye beneath the park’s namesake, Rooster Rock.

This shaded park is located on the Sandy River southeast of the Stark Street Bridge on the Historic Columbia River Highway (Hwy 30). A popular destination for fishing, boating and swimming, the park features a beach area that fills quickly in the summer months, as well as picnic tables and grills throughout. A picnic shelter can be reserved for events with up to 50 people. The shelter is next to a volleyball court and horseshoe pits. An 18-hole disc golf course is popular year-round, and is one of the most technical and challenging courses in the Northwest.

Situated at the eastern end of the Historic Columbia River Highway, the park also marks the eastern end of the popular "Waterfall Corridor" that begins at  Crown Point and includes the majestic Multnomah Falls.  Latourell, Bridal Veil, Wahkeena, and Horsetail Falls are also along this route.

The Campground Host provides service for Ainsworth State Park by supporting campground operations, maintaining grounds, facilities, and campsites, providing excellent customer service to visitors, and observing park activity and reporting concerns to park staff.
