General Responsibilities: • Respond to visitor, staff, and volunteer requests in an attentive and respectful manner. • Support park operations by serving in the small visitor center in the campground where you can expect to answer questions, assist with daily bike rentals, give out park brochures, maps, event information, etc. • Visitor Center hosts can expect to be assigned one of the following daily schedules: 9am-2pm or 2-7pm. Provide screening of park visitors entering the campground. • Accomplish tasks using tools including basic hand tools including rakes, shovels, loppers, etc. • General landscaping duties including pruning, raking, weeding. • Organize, inventory, and maintain cleanliness of tools, shop, and shared maintenance spaces. • Perform general cleaning and servicing of yurts/cabins, including restocking bathrooms, emptying trash, sweeping, mopping, and wiping down counters, mattresses, tables and sinks. • General landscaping duties including mowing, and trimming. • Provide general restroom maintenance, including wiping down countertops, sweeping floors, and restocking supplies. • Operate utility vehicles (golf carts, gators, etc.). • Operate and maintain small, powered equipment including basic power tools, blowers, and trimmers. • Clean-up and debris removal. • Perform general trail maintenance, including brushing, tread work, and building drainages. • Clean-up and debris removal on trails. • Provide maintenance, cleaning, and support for transfer station and recycling station. • Pick up litter and wash down transfer station on a regular basis or as needed. • Assist the public with information about appropriate disposal of refuse. • Working in the campground entry booths, supporting campground staff in camper registration. Contacts are observation and information only. Provide screening of park visitors entering the campground June-September. You can expect if assigned entry stations to be working a 3-7pm or 4-8pm shift Thursday - Monday. • The Museum Store is operated and maintained by the Friends of Old Fort Stevens. The proceeds from revenues collected are used to develop and enhance programs and projects within the Fort Stevens Historic Area. Hosts assigned store duties can expect to: Work directly with the Friends of Old Fort Stevens Store Manager. Operate a Square point of sale system. Sweep floors, turn on exhibit lights, raise and lower flags. Stock and prepare museum store for customers. Open and close the Memorial Rose Garden. November-May you can expect a 3-6 hour shift with store hours being 10am-4pm. June-October you can expect a 4 hour shift with store hours being 10am-6pm The Museum Store closes the following days: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day. • Firewood sales throughout the park and Wood on Wheels, are operated and maintained by the Friends of Old Fort Stevens. The proceeds from revenues collected are used to develop and enhance programs and projects within the Fort Stevens Historic Area. Hosts assigned wood duties can expect to: Operate utility vehicles (gators/golf carts) selling and delivering firewood to campsites. Support and sell firewood through operation of small change fund. Be responsible for inventory and end of shift reports when operating mobile wood sales carts. Organize, inventory, and maintain cleanliness of woodbins and shared spaces. Additional Responsibilities: The following tasks are subject to new equipment restrictions and require pre-approval prior to operation. See Restricted Tasks below for more details. o Operate and maintain large equipment (John Deere 1435 mower, zero-turn mowers). o Operate and maintain industrial shop equipment (i.e. saws, grinders, planers, welders, etc.). Physical Requirements: • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. • Ability to walk long distances on uneven terrain and or stand for long periods of time. • Ability to bend, crouch, twist, push and pull and perform repeated motions such as shoveling or raking. • Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
