In this position you will be working out of China Creek State Park, the northern border of a large western snowy plover conservation zone. Your primary duty will be providing interpretation to park visitors regarding the snowy plovers, their habitat, and our conservation efforts. You are also expected to inform visitors of the rules regarding the restricted nesting grounds and the adjacent beach and surf areas. If you witness rule infractions you are asked to inform a ranger as soon as possible, if the violation is extreme (someone intentionally destroying plover nests for example) you can call Oregon State Police dispatch as well. While you are on duty, you will keep records of your visitor contacts in the park as well as any rule infractions you witness. You are also asked to keep the parking area clean and free of litter. There may also be opportunities for you to provide evening programs on western snowy plovers in the campground. If that is something that interests you, please bring it up with your volunteer coordinator. In this position you will live in the Bullards Beach campground for the duration of your assignment, and will be provided a state vehicle to reach your post on days that you are scheduled to work. This position may include other duties that are not mentioned in this description.
