Location of Assignment: Prineville Reservoir State Park. Time Commitment/Schedule: Friday – Tuesday (Wednesdays & Thursdays off), 2-4 hours cleaning campsites and cabins (and/or completing any general landscaping or maintenance tasks) within the hours of 10am and 4pm, 1-3 hours selling firewood/ice within the hours of 5pm and 8pm. 20-30 total hours per week. Purpose of Volunteer Role: The Campground Host assists park staff in camp operations, customer service, maintenance, and beautification with the goal of creating positive experiences for park visitors. General Responsibilities: • Interact with park visitors, answer questions and perform customer service in a positive manner • Maintain a steady flow of communication with park staff members and other volunteers and respond to requests in a respectful, attentive manner • Perform campsite maintenance: remove ash from fire pits, pick up litter, rake or blow debris off asphalt pads, make sure picnic tables are in the appropriate areas, and alert staff of any damages or safety concerns. • Perform general landscaping (as needed/as assigned by staff). This may include using loppers or hand saws, riding or push mower, string trimmers, and leaf blowers. • Safely operate utility vehicles (John Deere Gator) and park trucks. • Perform general cleaning and servicing of cabins: emptying trash, dusting; wiping down counters, sinks, furniture, toilet, shower; sweeping, vacuuming, mopping; cleaning barbecue grill, and restocking cleaning supplies. • Alert staff to safety issues, facility issues, and major cleaning needs. • Support firewood and ice sales though operation of small change fund and Self Registration Envelopes (SREs). Additional duties may include: • Assist Park staff with special projects and tasks: projects could involve carpentry, advanced landscaping, small engine maintenance, plumbing, etc. • litter-pick and replace trash bags in the day-use areas. Restock bags in “Mutt Mitt” dispensers Restricted Tasks: • Rule Enforcement: Hosts may share information on park rules with visitors, but they may not attempt to enforce rules. This activity is only performed by paid park staff with enforcement training. • Operating power equipment: hosts may not operate the backhoe, crack sealer, woodchipper, boom lift, or chainsaws (pole saws may be used with supervision) Minimum Required Qualifications: • Be at least 18 years old. • Ability to lift-up to 25 lbs. • Ability to travel on uneven terrain, as well as be stationary for long periods of time. • Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
