Description

J02 – North Road (Dispersed camping host)/Jasper Point Campground Relief

We would like to invite you to come out to Jasper Campground, located near Oregon’s first International Dark Sky Park (Main Camp), where the greatest show on Earth comes at night, come see the stars under our big beautiful Central Oregon sky.

his position is located at our Jasper Campground which is about 3 miles further up from Main Camp. The host site is J02 which has full hook ups (30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer). Due to cell phone reception being limited for AT&T and T-Mobile users, we are expanding wi-fi access for both campground host sites, at this time we have Wi-fi available for the hosts at the laundry facility, which is located by the well for the campground. Those with Verizon or US Cellular typically have full coverage.

The Main responsibilities include cleaning out rock fire rings, performing general landscaping (weeding, string trimming, blowing, raking), performing light cleaning in CXT restrooms, safely operating a ATV (Can-Am side-by-side but we do offer a regular vehicle to complete your tasks), litter pick-up, and maintaining steady communication with Rangers to ensure safety and appropriate usage of resources in a dispersed camping area. We also ask that this position assist in the sales of firewood and ice (when back in Jasper Pt campground) through the operation of a small change fund and Self Registration Envelopes (SREs).

Two days out of the week, this position covers the regular duties of the Jasper Point Campground Host: Removing wood, ash, and trash from fire pits, picking up litter, and cleaning the two cabins between guests, if asked by the Rangers.

For single hosts, we ask for 20-30 service hours/week. For a pair of hosts, we ask for a combined 30-40 service hours/week (Wednesday-Sunday with Monday/Tuesday off). We ask for dispersed camping maintenance/campground and cabin maintenance (2-3 hours) to be completed between 11am and 3pm. We would like hosts to be available from 6pm-8pm to assist in the sale of firewood and ice. We gladly make accommodation for occasions where hosts would like to go to town for groceries, dinner, etc. We just ask for communication, so all duties can be covered.

If you believe that this position is a good fit for you, or simply have questions about it, please do not hesitate to contact the volunteer coordinator, Roberto Ruiz, via text (best option), email or phone.
