Situated between the south end of a scenic glacial lake and the towering peaks of the Wallowa Mountains, Wallowa Lake State Park is an ideal base camp for wilderness treks and watersports fun. Wallowa Lake campground offers year-round camping and a seasonally open marina. The large day-use area along the lake features a beach, spots for fishing, picnic tables and two reservable picnic areas (one covered). The park continues a mile upriver at the seasonally open Little Alps Day-use Area, located between the east and west forks of the Wallowa River. This quiet area has picnicking along the river and access to the Wallowa Lake Trailhead, gateway to the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area.
Minam State Recreation Area makes the most of the picturesque Wallowa River, attracting anglers, boaters, rafters and those seeking solitude and simplicity. Located between the Wallowa Whitman and Umatilla national forests, the campground is gateway to miles of hiking trails
The Wallowa-Minam Visitor and Information Host provides service for Wallowa Lake State Park/Minam State Recreation Area by providing information about the park, park activities, and the surrounding areas. Restocks, sells, and labels visitor information center and/or gift shop items, and provides general restroom maintenance. Review the volunteer assignment description for this position here.
Time Commitment: Volunteers should anticipate a 5-day schedule with the expectation of 20-30 hours per
week. Days off are communicated through the monthly schedule. Variable schedule depends on tasks performed.
