Location of Assignment: Tseriadun Day Use Area
Time Commitment/Schedule:
· One month minimum, with 20-30 hours of duty each week per host.
· Host will have Monday & Tuesdays off each week.
· On duty hours may be between dawn and dusk; there is a split in the shift due to gate duty at open and close of park.
Purpose of Volunteer Role: The Day-Use Host provides service for a park that is only open to visitor day-use and does not provide overnight facilities for visitors. The Day-Use Host is the only individual allowed to stay overnight in the park at a designated park host site. Host volunteer helps maintain day-use areas by supporting landscaping and facilities at the park.
General Responsibilities:
· Safety first – Volunteer must be trained by a park ranger on all equipment prior to its use.
Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
· Respond to visitor, staff, and volunteer requests in an attentive and respectful manner.
· General landscaping duties including: pruning, raking, weeding, mowing, and trimming.
· Open and close gates as needed for parks, trails, and walkways before and after day use hours.
· Filling potholes with wheelbarrow and shovel.
· Provide general restroom maintenance, including disinfecting touch surfaces, sweeping floors, and restocking supplies.
· Restocking the pet waste dispensers.
· Accomplish tasks using tools including: basic hand and power tools, blowers, and trimmers.
· Performing minor building maintenance including: light painting, bulb replacement, minor safety repairs & construction.
· Organize, inventory, and maintain cleanliness of tools, shop, and shared maintenance spaces.
· Operate and maintain small powered equipment.
· Provide maintenance, cleaning, and support for transfer station and recycling station.
· Provide assistance and support to staff in maintenance and construction projects.
· Clean-up and debris removal.
· Picking up and disposing of litter.
· Attend monthly safety meetings.
· Perform general trail maintenance, including brushing, spreading gravel, & trimming with loppers.
Restricted Tasks:
· Hosts may share information on park rules with visitors, but volunteers do not enforce rules or make initial contacts for rule infractions. This activity is only performed by park staff.
· No operation of large equipment or chainsaws. This activity is only performed by trained park staff.
· No use of ladders while on duty.
· No excavating or digging on park property.
· Working in open toed shoes/sandals while on duty.
· Working in shorts/capris, hosts must wear pants that cover the entire legs while on duty.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
· Be at least 18 years old.
· Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
· Ability to travel on uneven terrain, as well as be stationary for long periods of time.
· Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
· Bending & twisting motions from side to side, crouching, walking on uneven terrain, walking up stairs and/or ramps, shoveling and raking motions, use of pruners and other tools that may require grip strength.
