Location of Assignment: Humbug Mtn SP – Campground Host – LOWER LOOP – Site 37
Time Commitment/Schedule:
· One month minimum with 20 – 30 hours of duty each week per host.
· This position will be on duty Friday through Tuesday, with Wednesdays and Thursdays off.
· On duty hours may be between 9am & 8pm depending on scheduled duties.
o The time constraints to consider include advertised firewood sales on some evenings. Campsite check-in & check-out times are an important factor in planning your day when duties are assigned – all work related to these duties must be completed before new arrivals and after departures.
· A schedule of expected duties will be provided to help with planning.
Purpose of Volunteer Role: The Campground Host supports park operations by providing excellent customer service to park visitors and general campground maintenance. This position will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining sites 35 through 87 in the lower loop campground. Volunteer may be asked to assist upper loop hosts with camp site maintenance on large outgoing days.
THE LOWER LOOP HAS NO CELL SERVICE – A radio is provided to each host for communication within the park.
General Responsibilities:
· Safety first – Volunteer must be trained by a park ranger on all equipment prior to its use.
Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
· Respond to visitor, staff, and volunteer requests in an attentive and respectful manner.
· Assist with campground guest check-in and checkout.
· Provide excellent customer service for park visitors by giving out accurate information about the park, park activities, and the surrounding areas.
· Provide campground maintenance, including cleaning out fire pits, raking, sweeping, blowing, push mowing, grass trimming and litter pick up.
· Operation of small equipment such as blowers, trimmers, and push mowers.
· Provide assistance to staff by restocking brochures, maps, and registration slips.
· Operate utility vehicles (golf carts or gators).
· Support, sell, and restock firewood for 3 hours in the evening Saturday, Sunday, Monday, & Tuesdays, but be reasonably available for sales as needed by visitors. Change fund will not be issued; money from sales will be dropped into the payment box after each sale.
· Provide maintenance, cleaning, and support for transfer station and recycling station.
· Provide general restroom maintenance, including wiping down sinks & countertops, dumping garbage, and restocking supplies.
· General landscaping duties including: pruning, raking, weeding, mowing, and trimming.
· Attend monthly safety meetings.
· Assist staff and volunteers by providing support for Jr. Ranger program.
Restricted Tasks:
· Hosts may educate information on park rules with visitors, but volunteers do not enforce rules or make initial contacts for rule infractions. This activity is only performed by park staff.
· Use of chainsaws & heavy equipment, ie; tractors, bobcat, dingo, or large John Deere mowers – This activity is only performed by paid park staff.
· Use of ladders while on duty.
· Working in open toed shoes/sandals while on duty.
· Working in shorts/capris, hosts must wear pants that cover the entire legs while on duty.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
· Be at least 18 years old.
· Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
· Ability to travel on uneven terrain, as well as be stationary for long periods of time.
· Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
· Bending & twisting motions from side to side, crouching, walking on uneven terrain, walking up stairs and/or ramps, shoveling and raking motions, use of pruners and other tools that may require grip strength.
