Location of Assignment: Port Orford Heads Day Use Area – Lifeboat Station Museum
Time Commitment/Schedule:
· One month minimum working up to 6 hours per day, not to exceed 24 hours per week.
· Workdays are Thursday-Sunday, from 9:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., with Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off.
· Host teams will be scheduled for the same shift, location and days off.
· Members of the Cape Blanco Heritage Society (CBHS) volunteer on Mondays and Wednesdays. The Historic Hughes House is closed on Tuesdays.
Purpose of Volunteer Role: To greet visitors and provide a guided tour to broaden the public understanding of this historic Lifeboat Station.
General Responsibilities:
· Greet visitors and provide information on the general layout of the Lifeboat Museum and the surrounding area in the park.
· Provide a formal tour and answer questions and receive comments.
· Update the sign-in sheet, tally total number of visitors and collect donations.
· Retail sales of gift shop to include making dog tags and reconcile sales at the end of day.
· Turn on and off all lights and disarm and arm alarm system.
· Raise and lower the flag (weather permitting) daily.
· Provide light maintenance as needed, by dusting, cleaning glass displays fronts, sweeping the interior and exterior porch area of the museum.
· Limit number of visitors to (9) upstairs due to fire code requirements. During certain scheduled events you may have to serve as a “stairs monitor” to ensure that no more than (9) visitors are upstairs at any given time.
· Notify Park Staff of any safety or maintenance issues.
Restricted Tasks:
· Refer any donated items by the public to the CBHS Executive Director at 541-332-0521.
· Hosts may share information on park rules with visitors, but volunteers do not enforce rules or make initial contacts for rule infractions. This activity is only performed by paid park staff with enforcement training.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
· Ability to climb approximately 20 stairs.
· Standing for up to one (1) hour while giving tours.
Training and Orientation: Orientation will take place on the 1st of each month; you will receive specific training to your area before you begin.
Equipment Provided: Volunteers with and asked to wear a volunteer vest, hat and name tag while on duty. These uniform items will be yours to keep. Other props, tools and equipment will be provided as needed for your use as part of this position and should remain at the museum.
Other Resources Provided: Volunteers will be provided with historical information about the Lifeboat Museum to assist them on giving tours.
