Location of Assignment: Cape Blanco State Park – HH host site
Time Commitment/Schedule:
· One month minimum with 20 – 30 hours of duty each week per host.
· You will have Saturday & Sunday’s off every week.
· On duty hours may be between 9am & 8pm depending on scheduled duties.
o The time constraints to consider include advertised firewood sales on some evenings. Campsite check-in & check-out times are an important factor in planning your day when duties are assigned – all work related to these duties must be completed before new arrivals and after departures.
· A schedule of expected duties will be provided to help with planning.
Purpose of Volunteer Role: The Maintenance Host provides service for a park by supporting landscaping, general repair, and special maintenance projects.
General Responsibilities:
· Safety First – Volunteer must be trained by a park ranger prior to operating any equipment. Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
· Respond to visitor, staff, and volunteer requests in an attentive and respectful manner.
· General landscaping duties including: pruning, raking, weeding and trimming.
· Performing minor building maintenance including: light painting, bulb replacement, minor safety repairs & construction.
· Clean-up and debris removal on trails.
· Accomplish tasks using tools including: basic hand and power tools, blowers, and trimmers.
· Operate utility vehicles (golf carts or utility vehicles)
· Operate and maintain small powered equipment.
· Provide assistance and support to staff in maintenance and construction projects.
· Perform general trail maintenance, including brushing, tread work, and building drainages.
· Resurfacing picnic tables
· Attend monthly safety meetings.
Restricted Tasks:
· Hosts may share information on park rules with visitors, but volunteers do not enforce rules or make initial contacts for rule infractions. This activity is only performed by park staff.
· No use of chainsaws or heavy equipment – This activity is only performed by trained park staff.
· No use of ladders while on duty.
· Working in open toed shoes/sandals while on duty.
· Working in shorts/capris, hosts must wear pants that cover the entire legs while on duty.
Minimum Required Qualifications
· Be at least 18 years old.
· Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
· Ability to travel on uneven terrain, as well as be stationary for long periods of time.
· Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
